• Pour out old bong water, and rinse the bong with hot tap water. Swirl clean water in the bong, and then dump it in the sink. You’ll see some of the residue on the walls come off with this first step.
• Now, it’s time to clean the interior of the bong. Follow the instructions for your bong cleaner, or make your own cleaner. To make your own, combine rubbing alcohol and salt in the bong.
• Cover the bong’s holes with special caps or with rubber bands and plastic.
• With the holes covered, shake the rubbing alcohol and salt vigorously. Let the bong sit for roughly 20 minutes.
• During these 20 minutes, take off the bowl and downstem. Put them in a resealable plastic bag along with salt and rubbing alcohol. The bong parts should be completely covered. This needs to sit for roughly 20 minutes as well.
• After the bong’s 20-minute period, take off the covers. Use a pipe cleaner or bottle brush to scrub down the walls.
• Repeat this for the parts in the plastic bag.
• Rinse the bong and disassembled parts. If you see any remnants, repeat the steps. Otherwise, you can dry and reassemble the bong.

Tips for Maintaining a Clean Bong

You can keep your bong cleaner for longer by rinsing it thoroughly after each use. Hot water is best. If this isn’t possible, at minimum, the bong water should be poured out as soon as possible. You can minimize the amount of debris in the bong by using a screen.
